Redemption
I’m lying in a pool
Of someone else’s blood
I’m thinking with a gun
And washing in the mud
I’m sliding through the
liquid
Slick across the floor
I’m struck by the
sweetness
In the sickening smell
of gore
I’m sinking to my knees
I’m crying tearless
sobs
The Devil has been here
My very soul was robbed
I’m listening to the
music
Enchanting in the gloom
The strange and
haunting melody
Foresees my coming doom
I’m hanging my stained
head
I’m fingering my blade
I’ve never been a
praying man
But now I am afraid
I’m frightened like a
child
I hear ghostly, scratching
clicks
I don’t dare to breathe
As I peer into the mist
A scabbed-up hand
reaches
Suddenly to grab me
It holds some chains
and shackles
To bind me on my knees
A raspy whisper –
feminine
My neck hairs stand on
end
There’s no escaping from this nightmare
Nor salvation from this
fiend
For this darkened room
I’m shackled in
Is not a haunted
mansion
Though I am held here
against my will -
My body up for ransom
No, this place I’m
kneeling in
This place no one
leaves behind
Is not a place at all
But a prison in my mind
For this murder I’ve
committed
Is as real as it can be
Though instead of kill
the body
They’ve been murdered
spiritually
The person that I
ruined
And slipped in their
blood pool
Was the convicted man
within me
Warring with this fool
But as soon as I have
killed him
I get back to my savory
Life – no! Help me
please!
This is not life, it’s
slavery!
I can’t get out! No
help me!
My nails claw into the
floor
As the monster with the
chain
Drags me to the door
You are mine! He says,
his hissing voice
Taunts me in my head
No! I scream, and try
to fight
I wish that I were
dead!
A scream erupts from
somewhere
Did that come from
inside me?
But then I see a
blinding light
From the beast has set
me free
The monster screams
again
His voice gives away
defeat
The blinding light was
from a man
And the monster begins
to retreat
The man looks Death
right in the eye
“I have paid you for
this man”
And then he turns to me
On my knees, gun in my
hand
I’m sorry! And I mean
it
I’ve murdered and I’ve
lied!
But then the man just
stares at me
His gaze goes deep
inside
The gloom around me
glows!
Was this all a trick of
death?
And demons gather round
Now I lose my breath
Hundreds, thousands,
everyone
Who’d ever served the
Dead
Were falling to their
knees
Bowing to the man
instead!
The gloom around was
lifted, cast away
The demons bowed in
fear
But they were not any
longer trouble –
The man clapped – they
disappeared
He sat down right
beside me
And my wounds began to
seal
From the Darkness I was
rescued
From the Death my soul
was healed.
This poem is based on a true story; the man who saved me is a friend of mine. I met him a few years ago when I was going through serious turmoil, and felt completely lost and hopeless. Out of my darkness, came this man who offered me hope and salvation, and wanted nothing in return but my friendship.
He was a perfect man. I cannot stress enough how wonderful this man was. My debtors came for me because I could not pay them, and he took the punishment. He was destroyed, spat on, beaten, and mocked. And he smiled, because he loved me like a son, and almost like a brother. He was willing to take that punishment for me, even though I could never deserve it, and had done nothing that would have enticed the normal person to come along and help me out of my bonds.
But the guy isn't normal. His name is Jesus. And He is God. He died for my mistakes and endured my punishment. And then He rose from the dead, giving me salvation. All because the God of the Universe somehow...wanted to.
Here's the cool part. This guy, Jesus (who is also God), died for your mistakes too. We all have bonds that we cannot pay spiritually, because we all have sinned. According to God, that makes us lawbreakers, whom a Just God cannot allow to go unpunished. Enter Jesus.
God gave us all a Piece of Him, Jesus, in the form of a man, simply because a man had to receive the punishment for all sins. Jesus willingly died, and then He rose from the dead, beating death and giving us redemption.
That is, redemption for those who would accept His gift of salvation. To have a gift, you must first receive it. If you are interested in receiving Jesus's gift as I have done, all you have to do is ask Him for it. He's always listening. You can even shoot me an email if you have any questions about it!
Joy and hope are that easy to find!
